STEP-BY-STEP GUIDES
Access Maltego Graph (Browser)
To access Maltego Graph (Browser), you need to have a Maltego ID, and a Maltego Graph seat must be assigned to you. If you don't have a Maltego ID, create one now. To learn more about product assignment, please check out our admin guides.
Once you have a Maltego ID and a Graph seat assigned to you, simply go to the Maltego home page and create a new graph to start investigating!
Using Graph (Browser) for the first time
Maltego Graph (Browser) is a graphical link analysis tool. It works by adding input information, querying our data sources*, and receiving output data which you can use to gain insights into your person of interest.
*All data sources powering Maltego Graph (Browser) are included in the Maltego Data Pass. For more information about the Maltego Data Pass, please check our resources on Maltego Data.
Step 1: add your input information
Individual data points on your graph are called Entities. Entities can represent any kind of information you want to investigate: email addresses, usernames, phone numbers, IP addresses, and many more.
Start your investigations by adding an Entity to your graph, and changing its value to match the piece of information you want to investigate.
Step 2: run a Transform
A Transform is the piece of code that will query your starting piece of information against our data sources. By running a Transform, you are searching for information about your input Entity, and Maltego will search through the data sources and return related information back to your graph.
There are many types of Transforms available through the Maltego Data Pass. Select the Transforms that match the information that you need, adjust the number of results you want to receive on your graph, and click 'Run'*.
*Each Transform run in Maltego Graph (Browser) consumes Maltego Credits. For more information on how many Credits each Transform run costs, please consult the table on our Maltego Data Pass and Credits guide.
Depending on the type of data you are querying, some Transforms may take some minutes to give you back results.
Step 3: analyze results
Once the Transform has finished running, if there is any matching information found through the query, it will be displayed on your graph in a format you can easily analyze.
Use Maltego Graph (Browser)'s analytical features, such as filters, selection, bookmarks, and different visualization options to quickly navigate through your results and gain meaningful insights.
Step 4: do it again!
Pivot from key data points and run additional Transforms to uncover more hidden connections between different pieces of information!
